A New York state of mind

I miss black coffee and the subway in the morning- walking everywhere in the rain, snow, wind and shine. I miss the seven blocks to the subway and the five to the park. I miss the restaurants, shops, and cafes indigenous to each neighborhood.
Ridiculously individualistic in their styles and practical in their paleness —I love New Yorkers as I love New York. A mescla of everyone from anywhere, pursuing dreams, pursuing life, pursuing happiness in a city of millions of people pursuing the same thing. That city is more of a community than the smallest town I have ever lived in. It's a place that hasn't been corrupted with our new world-drive everywhere, chain-worshipping, ever expanding suburban cities. New Yorkers feel the life around them — simply because they are exposed to it — day in and day out. Living in that place- wretched at times I admit — can awaken the spirit as quickly as it can crush it.
But that's to be understood. That's the state of mind.
Last Sunday, my good friend Gino Siller and I shot a wedding at the Hudsen Gardens in Littleton- a charming venue near Denver. We arrived as the bride and her parents pulled in to the parking lot and I met bride Mollie for the first time. Mollie grew up in Denver and went to medical school in NYC where she met Josh- her now husband. As the day progressed, Mollie and Josh's (groom) friends and family started pouring in — many from that same beloved New York state of mind. And they threw one hell of a party. Congratulations to Mollie and Josh!

Meet Mollie. Doctor. Friend. Daughter. And beautiful Bride in Blue.
With excellent taste in shoes.
Meet Mollie's handsome friends drinking champagne- who appreciate her excellent taste in shoes ... and life.

Meet Mollie's dad.

So proud.
Mollie's mom. Also proud ... and gracious ... and lovely.
Mollie's friend from Denver was the artist in charge of flowers for the occasion.
All Mollie had requested for the ceremony was that there be a live band,  no white dress,  and an orange lily for her hair.
It was the last minute and the lilies they ordered hadn't opened.
By the grace of God and the diligence of the worker bees that love Mollie, they found an opened lily.
Mollie was thrilled.
friends.
I found Mollie before the ceremony, after her friends had been seated and she was waiting for her parents to  walk her down the aisle. You could cut the emotion in the air with a butter knife.
Once again, so proud.

Meet Josh. Teacher. Son. Friend and Groom.
